Morning Routine

Morning Routine

Morning routine… Everyone has one.  The difference is that some routines are chaotic, while others are organized.  Either way, it sets the tone for the day.  Successful people attribute a large part of their success to their morning routine.  Tony Robbins promotes taking a ‘power hour’ each morning.  Steve Jobs talked about looking himself in the mirror every morning and asking himself if he would be happy with his day if it were his last.  If the answer “no” too many days in a row, he knew he needed to make changes.

Recharge Your Batteries

Recharge your batteries

Do you need a recharge?  In today’s go-go-go society, being busy is glamorized.  We may get the feeling that if we’re not busy, then we’re not accomplishing anything.  However, this is not always the case.  Busy doesn’t always mean progress.  Sometimes, it feels as though nothing is going as planned.  Or nothing really sounds appealing.  When this happens, we may need to recharge our batteries.  It’s normal to feel this way periodically.  It can come from burnout.  Even if it’s not a full-blown burnout moment, it’s important that we recharge our batteries on a regular basis.

Monday Motivation

Motivation

Motivation can be difficult on Mondays this time of year. It’s cold and your resolutions or goals may have fallen by the wayside by now.  The cold weather is enough to keep me indoors all winter long, not just on a random Monday.  We were in Missouri last week.  So I could go on and on with reasons to not workout on a cold Monday.  Reason # 456,432 we moved to Florida.  But we’ll save my gratitude for Florida for an upcoming edition of Thankful Thursday.  The cold weather outside ALMOST kept me in bed.  I needed extra motivation. So I went to the Internet for help!  Here are some reasons to get out and work out.  You may need them at some point.

Can Fear be a Motivator?

Fear

Fear is our brain’s way of protecting us by telling us to STOP what we’re about to do.  Our first reaction is to run away to save ourselves from the perceived threat.  However, it’s important to evaluate why we’re feeling afraid.  There are many situations that make our brain react as though there’s a threat.  Pretty much any new situation will cause your body discomfort.  If you’re about to jump off a cliff, you may want to decide against doing it.  In this case, it’s best to just walk back down.  Chances are, there’s nothing good at the bottom of that cliff.  But if you’re afraid of running that 5K, do it!  The chances of major injury are slim with this choice.  If you’re feeling afraid, it’s important figure out the pros and cons.  This is where risk vs. reward comes in to determine if it’s worth it.

Never Miss a Monday

Never Miss a Monday

It’s important to never miss a Monday during your fitness journey.  Sure, rest days are encouraged and necessary.  But Monday should not be the day you miss.  Mondays have a reputation for being a crappy day.  So this makes more acceptable to relax after a ‘case of the Mondays‘.  Or if you spent the entire weekend couch surfing, what’s one more day?  For those who enjoy resolutions and clean slates, Mondays offer a new start.  Although it’s important to keep in mind, you can start any time.  But, let’s talk Mondays for now.

Best Week Ever

Best Week Ever

Best Week Ever…No.  I’m not talking about the TV show! I’m talking about YOU having the best week.  Mondays are usually the red-headed stepchild of the week.  Since Monday happens every week, we might as well make the best of it.  Keep in mind, prepping for Monday morning doesn’t guarantee everything will go smoothly.  Planning ahead helps you handle the unexpected with a clearer mind.

Word of the Year: Uncomfortable

Uncomfortable

Uncomfortable, by definition, has a negative connotation.  So choosing this as my word/theme for 2018 may seem strange.  After all, the theme for the year should be a word that inspires you to take action to reach a goal.  I’ve been coddling myself way too much lately in all aspects of life: business and fitness, especially.  I’m challenging myself to do something uncomfortable each day.  It can be anything from pushing myself in running to doing a pesky chore that I “don’t” like.  That’s the beauty of a word vs a resolution.  You have a wider range to challenge yourself.  In what area do you want to challenge yourself?

Meditation…Should You Do It?

Meditation

Meditation is something that’s been on my mind for a few years now.  I have always avoided it because I could not bring myself to sit still and be quiet for a long period of time.  And by long period, I mean 10 minutes.  Yoga classes have always been difficult for me because of this.  My mind is always thinking about what’s happening next.  What I may have forgotten to do, and did I turn off the stove.  You know that feeling we get that lingers on all day, wondering what you may have forgotten.
